NAS Cretives/Shutterstock Unless you're the NY Post, the existence of expensive high-end marijuana vaporizers and e-weed contraptions is not exactly a new thing.People have been using e-cigs to get high as long as e-cigs have existed, and items like the Volcano Vaporizer have been around for almost a decade. But if you are the NY Post, then you better sit down for this one: well-off yuppies like to smoke marijuana too.And they like to do so in public! The Post talked to Bushwick graphic designers, Cobble Hill filmmakers, Bayonne bartenders, Bushwick musicians, Crown Heights teachers, and Financial District nonprofit workers to find out all about how gainfully employed professionals are sucking on the wacky weed in movie theaters, baseball stadiums, subways, airplanes, and public parks.“I have used it in Brooklyn Bowl, the Gutter, Yankee Stadium, many streets, bars, parks, people’s homes,” a 29-year-old educator who lives in Crown Heights told the paper, referring to his walkie-talkie -esque handheld vaporizer Iolite.

But this isn't just about blazing during a Mets game or sneaking in a smoke before seeing Gravity in IMAX 3D for the fourth time—this is also about sinuses.“I smoke so much, I’d been giving myself sinus infections,” says one 25-year-old graphic designer who switched from bowls and joints to a Pax Vaporizer.“It feels so much better to be smoking a vaporizer.I’ve been getting sick less.” So if you're a captain of industry looking to diversify your THC ingestion system and perhaps avoid some meddlesome infections, all you need is $250-700 to join the future. The Post thinks you'll have a much better time at your next pig roast.Premium Cannabis Products Quality is a main focus at Lightshade. From our attention and care during the grow process, to the selection of partners creating high-end concentrates, to the careful consideration of edibles and other products offered, we want to provide the best selection for all of our customers.FLOWERPremier Colorado-grown cannabis strains to match your ambience.

These pens still use silica wicking, and are just now "upgrading" to ceramics. They're designed for e-juice, not wax, and even when it comes to cannabis infused juice, there is better options, like the Cubis tank from Joyetech.Kandypens: Kandypens simply re-brands china made pens, known to use unsafe materials in their construction. In the past they have scammed dozens of customers, and DOX'ed(the Internet-based practice of researching and broadcasting personally identifiable information about an individual) their own customers.Materials safety: 0/10 Build quality: 1/10 Function: 2/10 Value: 0/10 Cloud: Cloud pens are cheap rebrands.I'll be adding linked comparisons for what devices they rebrand shortly, this is a work in progress addition, for the meantime I'd like to point to the cloud electro teardown by /u/tylerj55, it's a good example of how cheap and nasty the internals of cloud's devices can be.Materials safety: 0/10 Build quality: 1/10 Function: 2/10 Value: 0/10 Greenlight Vapes H-Enail/Dabbie: This is a device I've torn apart myself.

It bills itself as a portable e-nail, and while it can't take huge dabs, it works well. That is, if you ignore the fact that the top is aTeflon material that degrades over time and can cause some serious medical issues if inhaled. In addition the ceramic rod is soldered directly to the electrical connection. Not only is this a health hazard, it's poor design. While this device works, I would recommend the Dr. Dabber version, as their newer version is reported to use ceramic instead of Teflon.Materials safety: 1/10 Build quality 2/10: Function: 6/10 Value: ?(Thisproducts is sold at many prices under many names)/10 Grenco Science(G-pen): Grenco is one of the older re-branders out there. Many of us started with a g-pen.However, they use sillica wick in their devices, which is unsafe for use in an atomizer, due to the risk of inhaling burnt silica. They do no manufacturing of their own, which wouldn't be as bad if their pens didn't have a 700% markup from the unbranded versions available on sites like DHgate and Ali.

Materials safety: 0/10 Build quality 2/10: Function: 2/10 Value: 0/10 Evidence: Just pop onto DHgate and search "micro g vaporizer wax" and see how many devices come up.Make no mistake, they aren't clones, they're all the same thing.Atmos: While Atomos was involved to some extend with the development of the "Rx" line, they rebrand many of their products such as the Kiln(A rebranded Divine Tribe, which itself is a rebrand of this device, as well as herbal vape rebrands. While I will concede that the "Rx" series are some of the nicer "cheap" devices out there, they certainly aren't worth the money asked for them.Consider them a rebrand.Materials safety: 5/10 Build quality: 6/10 Function: 4/10 Value: 4/10 Gentlemen Vapes: While the materials used to build Gentlemen's carts seems on point, they have a MASSIVELY high failure rate. While I have no units to tear apart to determine the cause, it's been an issue for the last couple years.Materials safety: ?/10 Build quality: 2/10 Function: 2/10 Value: 2/10 Source Vapes: Source vapes produces their own carts, and makes a damn strong dome, an all metal top piece.

They do a GREAT job at marketing, but at the cost of material design, they've used solder in their past products(the v2 line). They tend to choose the cheapest possible solution to development, choosing to fix the issue in their v3 and XL line by using no non-resistive wire and connecting the hot coil leads directly to the cart, resulting in hot wire resting on silicone. While the health and safety of this is debatable, their past makes them worth skipping over, for now.Their XL coils claim to use Grade 1 Ti(a bit softer than grade 2), but they have provided no satisfactory evidence or named their supplier.Their current upcoming product, a re-branded h-e-nail/Dr.Dabber Boost/Dabbie designed to fit their coils, has actually ADDED PTFE into the product design, around the heated nail, which makes it as toxic as the old versions of the g-e-nail.Materials safety: (v2)0/10; (v3, XL)5/10 Build quality: 3/10 Function: 6/10 Value: 4/10 VacaVapes: Vacavapes sells the Cannon v1.2 and it's associated coils.

Jeff, who works over at Vacavapes, has all the coils wrapped here in america, and is a very friendly service rep.The coils themselves vary in quality, and at the time of this review I can only speak for the quality of the dual ceramic rod and ceramic donut coils. The coils are Ti(though I do not know if it's an alloy or not), and they are well wrapped. However, I did have several issues with center-pins on the carts not being extended enough, which required some fiddling with in order to make them fire correctly. While the Cannon is a decent atomizer, I still feel as though you can do better for the money.Materials safety: 6/10 Build quality: 7/10 Function: 7/10 Value: 6/10 Yocan: Yocan is most well known for their NERO(Astra) heaters. The Astra element is a thin Nickle Alloy plate, that heats up almost instantly. While this makes for an interesting product, in practice it results in splatter, and the foil is quickly drowned out by concentrates.Yocan has refused to provide lab analysis or MSDS information on the alloy, due to extreme paranoia that the method they use to get the plates so thin would be leaked as well, despite vocal requests from several dozen consumers.

Yocan recently released new products, the Evolve, and Evolve Plus.Yocan has recently decided to phase out it's NERO heaters, admitting they had problems and saying they will no longer be using them. They've also introduced ceramic disk coils to the Evolve Plus. All in all, Yocan is quickly on the path to being the standard for cheaper wax pens with good build quality.(EVOLVE RATING):Materials safety: 9/10 Build quality: 6/10 Function: 7/10 Value: 6/10 (EVOLVE PLUS RATING): Materials safety: 9/10 Build quality: 8/10 Function: 7/10 Value: 6/10 (NYX RATING):Materials safety: 9/10 Build quality: 8/10 Function: 7/10 Value: 8/10 Saionara Atomizer: A solid coil system built into the guts of an RDA.Near indestructible, a variety of coil choices including ceramic and quartz options, as well as supporting the Miracle Co.Massive airflow combined with an AMAZING price make this the top LAYG option currently on the market. The Miracle Coil uses SS wire, and doesn't splatter even with the airflow all the way open and a strong draw, and has some of the cleanest taste of any LAYG coil system.

Replacement coils are cheap, and a possible glass mouthpiece and bubbler are rumored to be in the works.Materials safety: 10/10 Build quality: 10/10 Function: 9/10 Value: 10/10 Divine Tribe v3: In the past, Divine Tribe has been well known for it's all ceramic atomizer designs.v1-v2.7 used a ceramic adhesive to bond the bottom metal plate to the ceramic body, but with the creation of v3, DT has created one of my favorite LAYG atomizer designs. The bottom metal plate is now screwed in, and can easily be removed.Replacement ceramic donuts can then be slotted in, making this a rebuildable atomizer.Well room beneath the donut is minimal, meaning little wax sits in the bottom of the chamber.Splatter is so so, but the mouthpiece makes collecting this splatter trivial with a decent wax tool.Temperature controlled donuts offer a wonderful hit, I'm currently running 275c, with a 40w limit.More info and pictures/video upcoming. As a plus, the Saionara's glass adapter fits right on top, making adapting this to a rig a breeze.

*Materials safety: 10/10 Build quality: 9/10 Function: 10/10 Value: 10/10 W9tech: W9tech is, thus far, the most accountable company out there in the world of portable wax carts. They have provided lab analysis of their Ti grade 2 wire(any Ti grade 4 and up is considered "safe" to use for dabbing), and they build all their KISS carts and other atomizers with wire crimps, which is essential as it's impossible to weld to grade 1-4 Ti.Currently their Hercules Oil Cartridge(not to be confused with the 71/74/74x) is the most powerful "cart" option on the market, holding up to a full gram, delivering powerful hits, and keeping taste very fresh while doing so.It uses a ceramic rod and Ti grade 2 sponge "wick" to vaporize the wax.The biggest draw of the Hercules is you do not replace coils.Various users have put hundreds of grams of material in a herc and still use the same ceramic heater. However, as the Herc requires some technique to use and is a bit complex, not to mention TALL, W9tech offers an amazing assortment of coils in their KISS line.

My second go-to device from them would be the Alpha Centauri.Oilvaporizer is a distributer of W9 products.Puffitup also offers many products, and has EXTREMELY fast and free shipping to boot!A USA test of W9tech's Titanium and crimps is available here.Materials safety: 10/10 Build quality: 10/10 Function: 10/10 Value: 10/10 Want to add to this list?Give me a company name, a picture of a coil torn apart, and any information you have on the materials used!I'll update this list with the info! This post is as close to objective as I can be.Let's discuss what; in my option, the best options on the market are for various use cases, and price levels.Let's break it down, based on the questions I get asked on a daily basis.$15-$40: The Omega 350, 650, and 1400 are great at this price point.Made by W9tech, black ceramic wick with Grade Ti 2 wire.Bigger number equals more battery life at the cost of longer battery. Also recommended at this price point is the Evolve Plus from Yocan.Dual quartz or ceramic disk wicks, with a built in wax storage compartment.

Nichrome wires on the quartz are sub par compared to the Omega's Ti 2(Ti lasts longer than Ni) coils.Battery life is great, airflow is AMAZING without allowing you to overwhelm the heater. Finally, we have the Alpha Globe v2 from puffitup! It runs about $25.50 with the default coupon code, and it's made by W9tech.This top piece is the same top piece as the Omicron v4, minus the metal dome.A bit less stealthy, but no less effective!$41-$100: The Omicron v4 is a simple solution at this price point.Expertly crafted, with 900, 1400, and 2100mAh battery choices.Comes with both glass and metal domes, and Ti 2 fc-2000 black ceramic and ceramic donut coils make this a great option. The Saionara is another excellent choice at this price point, weight in around $45 bucks without any extra coils.WIth Kanthal, Ni, and Ceramic coil options, as well as the new Miracle Coil, it's currently the best LAYG option on the market at the price point. While quartz wicks tend to splatter a bit, the small cart design makes up for this and results in minimal waste, to say nothing of the ceramic Miracle Coil's efficiency(it's fantastic).

You really can't go wrong here.$100+: If you've reached this point, you're tired of replacing coils. You want to spent money on something, that once and for all, will last forever(or as close as possible to it).The Hercules Oil Cartridge is the solution to this issue.A heated ceramic rod and a "sponge" like donut wick made of Ti 2 mean the Hercules line can easily hold .5g to 1g of concentrate. The design of the heater is such that your oil doesn't sit in contact with the heater and turn to "redab", spoiling the taste.Every hit tastes as fresh as the first, for grams and grams of concentrate.Designed to be easy to take apart and clean, the Oil Cartridge uses a spring loaded pin(which can wear out over long periods of time, but is easy to clean and lasts years).THIS OPTION REQUIRES A SEPARATE POWER BOX AND BATTERY.THE PREVIOUS (SR-71/SR-74x) HERCULES IS 601 THREADED, YOU NEED A "601 CART TO 510 MOD" ADAPTER.THE "HERCULES OIL CARTRIDGE IS 510.While many options will work, the requirements are a mod that can fit at least a single 18650(do NOT use built in batteries) that has at LEAST a 20a limit.

Dual 18650 mods are recommended.Personally, I use a Cuboid and a pair of LG HE2's.It's not recommended to charge via the USB on the cuboid, a seperate battery charger is safer and makes batteries last longer, I recommend the Digicharger D4, as it will inform you on just how healthy your batteries are.I need something smaller, my only concern is size, not battery life or coil life! The Cannacig, made by W9tech, is ultra small, and uses black ceramic wick. It's older, but still safe and functional.pens are good, why aren't they on this list?Because they aren't good.Glue, solder, DOXing customers, rebranding cheap china designed knockoffs, or simply overcharging has prevented them from being suggested.High Times reviews are 95% of the time PAID promotions, with companies paying for a place on the list.If it's not on this list, there's most likely a reason, or I haven't heard of it.The Hercules seems big and complicated.Should I still get one?In my opinion, there's a specific market for the Hercules.

If you don't mind reloading constantly, or have very little concentrate, it might not be for you.If you are worried it's too complicated, it might not be your solution. If you don't need CONSTANT access to oil without having to reload, it might be over the top.But if you hate reloading 20 times a day, blow through grams of oil like your friends blow through grams of bud, want a 100% reliable machine that you can fix yourself in 98% of situations if somethings off about it, and want a heavy medical users device that hits as hard as a dabber(within reason, it's not gonna do a 3 gram dab, it's a portable device), you might consider getting a Hercules.I have no price limit, I just want something that won't fall apart!I don't mind replacing coils and I already have a box mod!The Omicron v4 has the updated Alpha Centauri from W9tech, for only a few bucks more.Pick one up, and use the AC on your mod, and you just end up with a flashy extra battery. The Saionara is an amazing option as well, and offers more airflow as well!
