High-performance open rack LNG vaporizer SUPERORV Overview Features Heat transfer tube structure Installations SUPERORV-mini (4 m long tubes) for replacement Overview The open rack LNG vaporizer (ORV) uses seawater as its heat source to vaporize LNG and incorporates panels comprising heat transfer tubes made of aluminum alloy.Liquefied natural gas flows upward inside the heat transfer tubes, while seawater flows down over the outer surface of the panels.The conventional ORV had limitations in reducing the used volume of seawater and the size due to ice formation on the outer surfaces of the heat transfer tubes.In 1996, Osaka Gas and Kobe Steel, Ltd.jointly developed a high-performance ORV (SUPERORV) in which the vaporization capacity per heat transfer tube is about three times higher than the conventional ORV.The key features of SUPERORV are a twofold increase in inside diameter of heat transfer tube from the conventional models and a double tube structure with inner tubes inserted in the lower part of the tube (low-temperature heat transfer section) of enlarged tubes.The results are the reduction of approximately 10%, 40% and 15%, respectively, in construction cost, footprint and seawater requirement, respectively, compared with the conventional type from Kobe Steel, Ltd.
