LUCIE — St. Lucie County sheriff’s officials are investigating a Thursday incident at Southern Oaks Middle School in which six students were taken to a hospital, officials said.St.Lucie County Fire District officials were called at 2:26 p.m.Thursday to the school in the 5500 block of Northeast St. James Drive, said Brenda Stokes, Fire District spokeswoman.Stokes said the initial call indicated three students drank something and their throats burned.Fire District officials wound up taking five children to a local hospital.Stokes said they were called for a sixth student, who also was taken to a hospital.A St. Lucie sheriff’s official said via email the case is under investigation, though officials don’t suspect there is a reason for concern for other students or parents.Kerry Padrick, chief communications officer for the school district, deferred questions to sheriff's officials investigating the incident.
